FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Thai Massage FAQs
- What should I wear? Wear loose, comfortable clothing (e.g., joggers, t-shirt).
- Do I need to remove my undergarments? No, except ladies may prefer to take off their bra. We ask that your pants etc. are kept on. We can provide disposable pants if required.
- What is a Thai oil massage? The massage is carried out on a bed with the customer face down at the start. The therapist will begin with a Thai warm-up routine working from feet, legs, back to shoulders with a repeated series of squeezes to loosen the muscles, often straddling your body to maximise the pressure applied. Oil is then applied and the main treatment starts. If time allows (1 hour or more treatments), you will be asked to turn over for a full body massage, usually including a neck and head massage.
- Is oil always used? Cream can be used as an alternative to the grape seed oil. Traditional Thai massage is done dry, without oils, directly on the skin or over clothes.
- What is Traditional Thai massage? It is a series of stretches and body manipulations, normally with the customer on a mattress on the floor. We provide loose clothing for you to use.
- What is a Swedish massage? This is an oil massage, primarily comprising a series of flowing body strokes. It is mainly for relaxation.
- What is reflexology? Applies pressure to specific points on the feet and hands to stimulate healing.
- What is the difference between a relaxing and deep massage? The therapist uses less pressure in a relaxing treatment than a deep. If you have painful areas in your body we generally recommend a deep massage, as it is more effective at pain relief. Traditional Thai massage is a deep massage and should not be booked for relaxation.
- What are the benefits? Massage improves flexibility, reduces muscle tension, improves circulation, and promotes relaxation.
- Is it painful? It should not be painful, but it is intense; communication with the therapist is essential.
- Do I need to be flexible? No, the therapist adjusts any stretches to your capability. A reasonable level of flexibility is desirable for Traditional Thai massage.
- What about pregnancy? We offer relaxing massages from 15 weeks onwards. Only fully and appropriately trained therapists give pregnancy massages.
- What happens if I fall asleep? The therapist continues the massage. At the appropriate time, she may gently wake you to ask you to turn over onto your back.
- Do I need to give feedback to the therapist? Yes, this is essential. Examples are: to adjust the pressure if too strong or not enough, spend longer on a problem area, avoid an area with an injury, you are too cold or hot.
- How long is a session? Common durations are 60, 90, or 120 minutes. We also offer some 30 minutes treatments.
- What is the cancellation policy? For on-line bookings, 24 hours' notice is required to avoid loss of deposit. Customers who repeatedly cancel or no-show will be barred.
- Are tips expected? Tipping for good service is appreciated. It can be made by cash or card. The entire tip goes to the therapist.
